Location: Lansing, MI

The IT Support Specialist will provide desktop, infrastructure, and application support to design, configuration, prioritization, implementation, documentation and administration of solutions. This position may be involved with the installation, configuration, upgrading and troubleshooting of any system issues relating to infrastructure and application technologies.

Objective/Summary
The IT Support Specialist will provide desktop, infrastructure, and application support to design, configuration, prioritization, implementation, documentation and administration of solutions. This position may be involved with the installation, configuration, upgrading and troubleshooting of any system issues relating to infrastructure and application technologies.
Responsibilities
- Oversee development and maintenance of computer systems.
- Identifies and communicates risks and works to plan and implement remediation efforts.
- Recommend and develops, new security solutions to augment corporate security.
- Directs customer communication, works closely with other technical teams and maintains deep technical knowledge of multiple technologies.
- Provides the secondary level of technical problem resolution response to assist in determining problem cause and resolution, according to the best practices within the IT Department
- Maintenance of Microsoft Windows server hardware and operating system health and patching levels
- Administration and Maintenance of virtual server host and guest operating systems for both the office and customer environments.
- Administration of Microsoft and VMware applications, operating systems, and Active Directory
- Work with different departments to design scalable solutions for the organization.
- Configuration and architecting storage solutions.
- Review and administer backup processes to assure 100% recoverability of the system(s) and data.
- Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot VMware vSphere Suite 5.x or later, VMware View 5.x or later, VMware vCloud Director 5.x or later, and VMware SRM 5.x or later.
- Basic administration of Salesforce, user setup, update & changes permission, create & managing reports
Experience, Skills and Qualifications (Required)
Experience:
- Associate’s degree in a related field, such as, Computer Science (or relevant experience)
- 2+ years of direct hands-on experience working within a data center and network infrastructure team including Ethernet networks with technologies such as gigabit copper and fiber, TCP/IP, VPN and Firewalls, Windows Server OS upgrades, etc. required
- 2+ years in a desktop support role working with various types of PC and application issues to best support the internal staff.
Skills:
- Understanding of and resolving common virtual machine and host server bottlenecks
- Ability to support various Microsoft applications and server infrastructures.
- Strong understanding of hosting architectures including database, network, and SAN technologies and concepts
- Strong understanding of Information Assurance concepts and security in virtual environments
- Effective written and communication skills.
