Reporting to the DTS Director responsible for Commercial Systems, this role is responsible for establishing and leading a world-class technology function that drives strategic value through technology enablement and innovation for Abbott’s Commercial organizations worldwide. This role is responsible for the global systems supporting all functions of the commercial organization within Abbott’s Medical Devices key business units, including sales planning, lead opportunity/management, pricing, contracting, billing, customer service, field service, and many others by partnering effectively with business unit and IT leadership.
This role is a full spectrum IT leadership lead role focused on the development of current and next generation commercial solutions by establishing and maturing a global delivery service organization that provides services to internal business units across Abbott. This role is accountable for developing a clear vision of what internal process and technology the team needs to adapt and building an agile minded culture to meet our commercial, and product strategy, they are responsible for hiring and retaining key talent and accountability for successful delivery of a large-scale portfolio of projects on a global basis.
Core Job Responsibilities:
- Understand Abbott’s strategic vision and market needs for delivering best in class digital products that help Abbott fulfill the promise of human potential
- Support product development teams through the discovery, ideation, design, and technical development of minimum viable products through also commercialization of market ready product
- Work with business product managers in setting up shared vision across business units and corporate functions in building consensus on product use cases, future state capabilities and priorities
- Assess market competition by comparing company products to competitor products
- Drive timely delivery of projects, and platforms within his/her remit
- Recruit and manage world class software engineering and digital product organization that delivers with velocity and quality
- Building a customer obsessed culture that focuses on customer success as its primary goal
- Making appropriate trade-offs to optimize time-to-market, clearly communicate goals, roles, responsibilities, and desired outcomes
- Constantly improve system performance and reliability through better tools, process, and monitoring systems
- Drive the adoption of new technology and methods through evaluation and feasibility research
- Provides leadership and hands-on technical direction to deliver world class commercial systems
- Implementation of dev-ops culture of working, ensuring new features and changes are deployed quickly and safely
- Oversee product development from concept to mass production
- Work with product and program managers – communicate cross functionally and drive engineering efforts company wide
- Plan for operational efficiency to scale products, programs, and practices
Education & Experience:
- Master’s Degree or higher preferred
- Minimum of 15 years IT, or software product development experience in large or mid-size multinational businesses, with a focus on technology product development ideally building internal startup capabilities
- Experience in delivering technologies and best practices in areas including: Salesforce.com, Microsoft Dynamics, Oracle Siebel, SAP CRM, and other commercial skills. Broad IT ability in various disciplines, that include establishing Agile development methodologies, cloud infrastructure, cybersecurity, organization change management, etc.
- Exceptional track record in delivering complex, validated, and cross functional programs
- A strong background in technical design / architecture with a solid understanding of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) and contemporary design patterns/practices (microservices)
- Financial skills and process skills; an understanding of the company's financial practices and goals - including drivers of process costs
- Demonstrated ability to creatively approach business problems and establish course of action
- Experience working in matrix global organization where success requires broad orchestration of resources and services
- Experience working in an FDA-regulated business (e.g. validated software related to medical, pharmaceutical, or life sciences products) is preferred
