The Salesforce Engineer Role

Engineers are tasked with crafting leading-edge solutions for our clients. This means delivering innovative products that will help the organization save time/money and achieve better outcomes.


In this role, the time breakdown will be as follows:

  1. Client-billable hours building solutions - 80%
  2. Application development - 10%
  3. SFDX deployments - 5%
  4. Sales demo org development & application setup with clients - 5%


For all of the items above, you will need to:

  • Evaluate the technology needs and requirements of project deliverables.
  • Provide thoughtful technical solutions and alternatives for deliverables. 
  • Design and document applications around the agreed-upon solutions.
  • Build technical applications as solutions to identified problems.


This role is not just about taking specifications and creating what a client asks for. It’s about listening to what a client wants/needs, analyzing their business processes, and identifying impactful (if not apparent) solutions that help the organization grow. For all the internal application development, Yurgosky is the client and the projects are managed similarly to external, billable, client projects. While the breakdown of time is approximate, client billable hours will take precedence over application development time, unless otherwise pre-determined by the Director of Engineering.

The Engineer is expected to perform the specific functions below:


Technical Updates (50%)

  • Review and analysze system specifications.
  • Help troubleshoot/reproduce bugs and errors.
  • Identify one or more technical solutions and be able to discuss with clients.
  • Create a solid technical solution based on best practices.
  • Conduct post-release/ post-deployment testing.
  • Execute test cases (manual or automated) and analyze results.
  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge, and documentation, of deployment and version control methodologies.
  • Analyze the impact of defects, bugs, errors, configuration issues and interoperability issues on existing test cases, including regression test cases.


Communication (25%)

  • Acknowledge client issues immediately.
  • Communicate with clients to identify the core issue(s).
  • Document and communicate to clients an estimated timeframe and scope (hours/cost) for fixes.
  • Communicate with clients of all open tickets at the end-of-day, daily, with a progress update. 
  • Work with the team to design, develop, and maintain all development.
  • Respond to all client comments within 6 hours.
  • Execute test plans based on business requirements and technical specifications using the testing templates.
  • Communicate and log issues (bugs) in Mavenlink (project management software).
  • Communicate with the Director of Engineering on demo and client application setup time requirements.
  • Setup templated Yurgosky applications from the AppExchange (1 hour commitment) with clients.


Internal Coordination (20%)

  • Work with cross-functional teams to ensure quality throughout the system development life cycle.
  • Help manage and contribute to Yurgosky built/internal applications..
  • Report bugs and errors to Project Lead, Project Analyst, and Engineers.
  • Collaborate with Project Lead, Project Analyst, and Engineers to develop effective strategies and test plans.
  • Determine and coordinate time estimates and priorities.
  • Work with sales team to design demo and implement environments (the Engineer will not be responsible for conducting actual demos)


Time management (5%)

  • Track and prioritize tasks on a daily basis in order to meet agreed upon deadlines.
  • Communicate any potential issues to the Director of Engineering. 
  • Log all hours worked before leaving every day.

The Hire

The ideal candidate for the Engineer role will have excellent technical and people skills. He or she will be able to:

  • Create data architecture, code and design comprehensive technology solutions from a set of business requirements, even when the solution is not readily apparent.
  • Share an in-depth knowledge of the technologies in the Salesforce ecosystem, including Salesforce Clouds and AppExchange products
  • Strong knowledge of Salesforce, including Apex, Visualforce and Lighting.
  • Creatively solve problems, and approach ambiguous scenarios as a fun challenge.
  • Pay meticulous attention to detail and ensure accuracy in all written communication.
  • Self motivated and persistent with a sense of urgency to go above and beyond in all tasks. 
  • Listen carefully to client’s needs and effectively diffuse challenging or tense situations through knowledgeable solutions.

  • Manage tasks from multiple projects in a single day, based on prioritization.
  • Maintain excellent judgment and professionalism, even in stressful times.
  • Identify risks, escalate them to management, and communicate risks & solutions to clients.
  • Ability to create clear and concise client-facing communications and technical documentation.
  • Be relentlessly positive and act as the driving force for ensuring Yurgosky exceeds our clients’ quality standards.
  • Follow documented policies and procedures and exercise industry best practices when a documented policy doesn’t exist.

The Engineer performance will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  1. Responsiveness - All issues responded to, and updated by the end-of-day, daily, in Mavenlink.
  2. Quality of technical solutions - 100% of applications meet or exceed Yurgosky standards for quality, including being free of bugs, user-friendly, and clearly organized.
  3. Effective communication - Issues are properly and promptly communicated, in writing, to appropriate staff; any issues are escalated promptly to the Director of Engineering; all documentation is comprehensive and accurate. 
  4. Project budget management - All updates are performed according to the project budget; no budget overages for any assigned tasks. All potential overages are communicated to the Director of Engineering upon using 60% of the budget.
  5. Analytical capabilities - ability to find the root cause of an issue or identify an appropriate update to a process.
  6. Time logged daily - All hours are logged, without issue, by the end of every day and timesheets are submitted by the end of every week.
  7. Quota achievement - Successfully log 35 billable hours each week.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience))
  • 3-10 years of relevant working experience
  • Experience developing on Salesforce
  • Demonstrated analytical capabilities with extreme attention to detail.
  • Desire to learn new systems and technical solutions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and Google Apps (Mail, Google Sheets, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Slides). 


Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Salesforce Administrator (Admin 201)
  • Certified Salesforce Platform Developer (Dev 201)
  • Experience with AWS, Heroku, MongoDB and/or Google Firebase products.
  • Experience using Mavenlink
