The Salesforce Project Lead Role
Project Leads are in charge of developing nuanced products out of complex requirements. They create technical solutions that go beyond client expectations, anticipate business needs, and simplify processes. Project Leads work alongside the Project Manager, who manages the client experience.
In this role, you will ensure:
- Technical solutions are correctly designed and built to meet client’s requirements.
- Applications developed include innovative features that will help the organization save time/money and achieve better outcomes.
- Client’s technology questions are thoughtfully researched and answered in a timely manner.
- Clients feel supported, heard, and engaged.
- Clients have thorough, accurate information when making technology decisions.
- All technology development deadlines are met.
- All technical project risks are promptly communicated to management.
- All work accomplished in a given day are communicated to the internal team.
Salesforce Project Leads are tasked with creating client evangelists. This means delivering products, services and experiences above and beyond what is expected. This role is not just about taking specifications and creating what a client asks for. It’s about listening to what a client wants/needs, analyzing their business processes, and identifying impactful (if not apparent) solutions that help the organization grow.

The Project Lead is expected to perform the functions below:
Declarative Technical Development (35%)
- Build architecture (objects, fields, page layouts) on the Salesforce platform
- Build automation (workflow rules, process builders, approval processes) on the Salesforce platform
- Build declarative components (Apps, Lightning Pages) in Salesforce Lightning
- Create on-record analytics (roll-up fields, formula fields, record-level reports) in Salesforce
- Configure the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) objects, custom settings, and account model
- Install and configure applications from the Salesforce AppExchange - including, but not limited to, email applications, document merge applications, e-signature applications, social media applications, online payment processing applications, form-building applications, SMS applications and financial management applications.
- Install and configure Yurgosky’s proprietary applications.
Solution Design (25%)
- Define appropriate data model and system architecture from business requirements for defined deliverables
- Create comprehensive technical documentation for both engineering and client (non-technical) audiences
- Create written recommendations, outlining a variety of solution designs and the considerations for each
- Reason through data model considerations, actively and aloud, with internal and client audiences
- Create documentation mapping detailed (field-level) data flows
- Design mockups of custom pages
- Rapidly prototype solutions and integrate feedback to support iterative development cycles
Leadership & Client Management (10%)
- Develop supportive client relationships through daily and weekly touchpoints
- Treat clients with tact, respect and patience
- Proactively identify new opportunities for client engagement
- Lead meetings to discover requirements and review technical development
- Approve meeting agendas
- Lead trainings to ensure that the clients are proficient in technology
- Oversee the technical development of junior staff and provide mentorship
- Manage competing deadlines and priorities through effective communication
Analytics (10%)
- Work with clients to define their strategic, tactical and operational reporting requirements
- Provide non-apparent, strategic recommendations to better clients’ decision-making methodologies through reporting
- Build custom reports - including matrix and joined reports, report buckets and report formulas
- Build dashboards & report charts to visualize data
Data Migration (10%)
- Host workshops with clients to review data
- Define and document data mapping and transformations
- Clean data (deduping, identifying outliers)
- Transform data., using advanced excel formulas & functions
- Connect data, using vlookup and index match
- Load data using Salesforce Data Loader, DemandTools and Apsona
- Create testing steps to ensure data is loaded correctly
Market Research (5%)
- Identify and vet new technology solutions on the market to share with clients and teammates
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of the applications used to solve common business problems in our industry
- Provide thoroughly researched, analytical recommendations for technology applications
Communication (5%)
- Communicate daily with Project Manager to discuss daily tasks and priorities
- Communicate risks to the budget or timeline on your assigned tasks immediately
- Communicate regularly with Engineering team to discuss technical solutions
- Communicate clearly, concisely and tactfully (written and verbal) with clients
- Escalate risks to manager well before they become issues
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences

The Hire
The ideal candidate for the Project Lead role will have excellent technical and people skills. He or she will be able to:
- Create data architecture and design comprehensive technology solutions from a set of business requirements, even when the solution is not readily apparent
- Share an in-depth knowledge of the technologies in the Salesforce ecosystem, including Salesforce Clouds and AppExchange products
- Demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, with the proven track record managing competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines
- Pay meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in written and verbal communication
- Creatively solve problems, and approach ambiguous scenarios as a fun challenge
- Lead client meetings, including routine check-ins, requirements gathering sessions, and trainings.
- Create clear and concise client-facing communications and technical documentation that are appropriate for executive and technical audiences.
- Listen carefully to client’s needs and effectively diffuse challenging or tense situations through knowledgeable solutions.
- Maintain a positive and collaborative attitude, and forge lasting interpersonal relationships with clients and teammates, even during stressful times
- Demonstrate an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving - when you see an opportunity to improve an internal process, take initiative to develop a solution to solve it both now and long-term, to help us build a better company
- Comfortably make educated decisions without complete information.
- Listen to feedback and demonstrate eagerness to learn.
- Proactively solicit answers whenever you have a question that you are unable to resolve on your own.
- Follow documented policies and procedures and exercise industry best practices when a documented policy doesn’t exist.

The Project Lead’s performance will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
- Technical design is accurate - 95% of your clients are happy with the products you’ve built, and report that the technologies satisfy their requirements
- Solutions are innovative - you think outside the box when creating solutions, aiming to improve how your clients operate and solve broader challenges in the nonprofit space. You create an application that can be packaged and shared with Yurgosky’s other clients at least once per year.
- Clients’ needs are prioritized - client’s emails are responded to in full by end of day each day.
- Clients are well-informed - all documentation provided to clients effectively communicates an accurate and complete account of their technical options, as well as the risks and values each one.
- Deadlines are met - all deadlines are met, internally and externally.
- Risks are communicated - all technical project risks are communicated to management the day that they arise, and addressed promptly with clients according to the plan determined with management.
- Internal communication - your time entries are logged and task statuses are communicated to internal team daily
- Quota achievement - successfully log 35 billable hours each week.

Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree.
- 5+ years relevant working experience.
- Must have experience administering Salesforce.com.
- Strong command of Excel (i.e. advanced formulas, pivot tables, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in managing complex projects and important relationships.
Preferred Experience
- Experience leading trainings and creating training materials.
- Experience using Analytics/Business Intelligence tools.
