POSITION SUMMARY

Blucora, the parent company to Avantax Wealth Management and TaxAct, is seeking a Tableau Engineer who will be working in a large, complex, and dynamic data environment. We are looking for an experienced Tableau Administrator for our BI Platforms and specifically our Tableau Environment to ensure a stable Development and Production Environment managed stringently to minimize downtime and maximize the value-added services provided by Tableau in connection with Snowflake, dbt, and Fivetran. The job entails application administration of Analytic tool server environments - Tableau along with development and deployment of solutions created in other data visualization and reporting tools. Candidate will create and deploy best practices and employ governance standards to support our enterprise Tableau environment. This will include troubleshooting day to day issues as well as upgrading the Tableau environment – based on cost-benefit evaluations developed in conjunction with BI leaders in the company. This candidate will guide developers on design and architect systems to provide high performance data visualization solutions to enable delivery analytic value and ensure they are maintainable and scalable as business needs dictate.

Facilitate cross-functional problem solving sessions to arrive at optimal solutions accounting for stakeholder needs to ensure successful project delivery. Provide team status in various projects, escalate issues as needed, access and communicate risks to the development schedule and project to represent our enterprise stakeholders’ interests in cross-functional project teams to ensure project success. Create, maintain, and enforce data visualization governance and development standards to continuously and proactively improve the quality of solution development and efficiency of processes across the enterprise. In this role, you will serve as the expert in designing, implementing, and operating a stable, scalable environment to flow information from the data warehouse into end-user facing reporting applications. Above all, you will work in the larger BI Platforms team to bring large datasets together to answer critical business questions and drive strategic decision making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To perform the job successfully, candidates must be able to execute the following essential capabilities.

• Work with business partners, product development teams and senior designers to capture Tableau requirements & determine solutions that integrate with existing BI assets, prototypes and systems

• Experience working with relational databases and/or Big Data Platforms (AWS Athena, Aurora, Redshift, GCP, Azure, Snowflake)

• Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses.

• Support the development of performance dashboards that encompass key metrics to be reviewed with executive leadership or in support of other stakeholder organizations.

• Provide architectural, functional, and process guidance on system capabilities and solution approaches.

• Provide technical guidance and thought leadership to other members of the team.

5 years of the following experiences:

• Tableau Administration Experience. Admin experience with other tools like Alteryx and Dataiku are added advantage.

• Business Intelligence/Analytics development skills

• BI and data management experience working on medium to large scale projects

• If no degree, 8+ years of experience as stated above

• Demonstrated experience with administration of data visualization tools. (Tableau preferred)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Degree in Data Science, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics or related quantitative field

• Strong experience with SQL and ability to write efficient code for high volume data processing

• Hands-on experience supporting high performing ETL processes, including data quality and testing processes

• Programming experience with an advanced language (C#, Python, Java, etc.)

• Exposure to data lake and data warehousing solutions (preferably on cloud technologies)

• Experience ensuring data quality across multiple datasets used for analytical purposes

• Experience in agile development methodologies and project management

• Demonstrated verbal, written, presentation skills

• Enthusiastic attention to detail, ownership, and pride in personal results

• Ability to acquire new skills quickly and thrive in a collaborative team environment
