Role: Backend Service Lead

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

1. The BigData team is responsible for real-time trending and personalization services within the app
2. The team is a combination of Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Microservice Developers
3. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who is a quick learner and excited about learning new technologies
4. In this role you will have the opportunity to apply your skills to develop robust, scalable and distributed software
5. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the needs of multiple teams, systems and products
6. Create, deploy, monitor, and maintain high performance and scalable microservices in the production
7. Build reusable production code pipelines
8. Help to manage the infrastructure and code pipelines needed to bring an ML solution to production
9. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.
10. Collaborate with stakeholders including the executive, product, data and design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs
11. Having the ability to guide, mentor and shadow junior members on the team

Primary Skills:

1. Experienced professional with 8-15 years of experience developing and implementing applications on Java or Go-Lang in Big data ecosystem i.e. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, HBase, Hive / Impala, Cassandra, MongoDB or any other similar distributed computing technology
2. Expertise deploying and managing containerized applications, preferably using GCP/AWS Kubernetes Services
3. Responsible for maintenance of existing microservices, testing, fixing issues, developing enhancements adhering to the engineering processes
4. Responsible for attending to and solving microservices production issues, resolving issues of end customers on existing pipelines and analytics services
5. Responsible for ensuring a working service in all environments from QA, Beta and Prod for the assigned microservices and assigned issues for existing services.
6. Ensure high quality deliverables adhering with focus on unit testing, integration, regression and performance testing
7. Responsible for end to end CI-CD automation for the developed microservices services in adherence to the stipulated Devops Practice
8. Proficiency in application design and coding best practices is a MUST
9. People and stakeholder management experience and excellent organizational skills and follow-through
10. Ability to work in fast paced, dynamic and geographically distributed environment
11. Good written and verbal communication skills

Good to have skills:

1. Following SRE process for deployments with complete responsibility of raising Service Requests, Change Requests in QA, Beta and Prod environments
2. Timely and regular updates to all stakeholders on progress of the assignment, attending daily standups and scheduled reviews
3. Work closely with data scientists, other clients and services teams to understand and articulate the requirements of any assigned project and document the same in wiki
4. Present and publish demos for internal and external stakeholders for assigned projects on achieving significant internal and external milestones
5. Responsible for mentoring and working with junior team members in delivering a common objective/assignment
