Role Summary / Purpose :

The successful candidate will be a highly technical member of a small team leading product innovation,

new technology adoption and cloud strategy in the IoT domain. The successful candidate should have a

broad and deep software engineering expertise, a demonstrated ability to architect and independently

deliver on hands-on tasks and a passion for automation and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities 

1. Lead new technology adoption delivering new capabilities and driving value attainment for consumers
2. Drive compliance with industry best practice for system implementation and technical architecture standards
3. Plan, scope, size, design, prototype, and engineer solution components
4. Hands-on engineering of difficult and complex sections of the application
5. Ownership of the full lifecycle of the platform: brainstorming, development, delivery, maintenance and decommissioning
6. Deliver solutions using (but not limited to) the following technologies: Java, AWS, Bash, Jenkins, Git
7. Produce detailed functional and technical software specification documents for scalable applications
8. Establish and drive best practices for maximum code reuse, testability, application integration, performance, reliability, manageability and security
9. Design and develop re-usable components and operational strategies in the cloud to support scalability, high availability, performance, monitoring, backup, restore, etc.
10. Deliver solutions in a few weeks from concept to delivery
11. Rapidly embrace and implement new technologies
12. Take an automation first approach to streamline processes
13. Build and maintain an automated DevOps delivery/deployment model to enable continuous release of software into cloud environments
14. System availability and uptime, capacity planning, maintenance scheduling, and disaster recovery
15. Perform software upgrades and installations as required in support of cloud strategy and business priorities

Qualifications/Requirements :

1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or related field and/or 6+ years of experience in software development in lieu of a degree
2. 5+ years’ experience in Java
3. Experience with AWS
4. Experience with TDD
5. Experience with NoSQL DBMS
6. Experience designing and implementing CI/CD strategies including automated deployment and release pipelines
7. Deep experience with structured and object-oriented software development methodologies including requirements analysis, object-oriented analysis, process and data modeling, logical and physical system design
8. Familiarity with software and infrastructure change management, release management, and source code configuration control including knowledge of CI/CD tools and processes
9. Familiarity with performance tuning applications
10. Experience with Git
11. Ability to reason through complex situations with strength in identifying and mitigating risks
12. Ability to build / maintain strong relationships, effectively partner with peers, and possess excellent verbal / written communication skills
13. Strong prioritization skills required to manage all in-flight and pending tasks appropriately.
14. Desire to continually learn

Desired :

1. Master’s degree in computer science/engineering or related field
2. 5+ years’ experience with AWS
3. Experience in Unix/Linux, Apache, Tomcat, Java
4. Experience using standard tools and techniques (ssh, bash, unix scripting, sed/awk, perl, etc)
5. Experience with CloudFormation, and/or ARM templates, and/or yaml scripting
6. Experience in Agile Software Development
7. Experience in application frameworks
8. Experience in application testing technologies
9. Strong strategic thinker who can translate strategies into solutions with concrete actions & tactical plans
10. Self-starter with an ability to solve problems with little or no direction
11. Familiarity with and experience implementing open-source software
12. Comfortable making local decisions when needed
13. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
14. Process-oriented and committed to superior quality and customer service
